Elizabeth Buchanan of Salt Spring Savouries has created a new Nettle Chai Tea that has all the punch and flavour of regular Chai without the caffeine. Apart from the usual ginger, cardamon and cinnamon, Elizabeth has added wild trailing blackberry leaves and organic lemon balm to the blend. She uses nettles growing wild on Salt Spring Island. The nettle leaves in this Chai make for a most wonderful tea. Nettles are perhaps the most potent wild plant around for their nutrient and medicinal properties. They are very high in vitamins and minerals. Herbalists recommend nettles for allergies, anemia, fevers, head colds, high blood pressure, joint pain, migraines and prostrate problems. Nettles are also reputed to have strong anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant properties and to be excellent for pregnant and lactating woman.
