Tan with maroon markings. Plump cranberry type with mottled pink pods. Much used in European cuisine. Prolific.

New, Flambo » certified organic ($3.50)

Named for its flamboyant colours; fluorescent pink pods turn to bright mottled purple as they dry. Healthy vigorous plants produce great yields of plump cranberry type beans. First to dry down in August.

Hopi heirloom, prolific large bush, great companion with corn. Drought tolerant and early maturing. Excellent dried bean, high in protein, fiber, vitamins & minerals.

New, Kenearly Yellow Eye » certified organic ($3.50)

Very similar to the Maine Yellow Eye, but with a slightly larger eye and more uniform maturity. Plump, cream, oval, medium-sized beans with a yellow eye. Great yields and easy to shell. Excellent as a baked bean and in winter soups. Developed in Kentville, Nova Scotia.

New, Mung Bean (Vigna radiata) » certified organic ($3.50)

Upright annual legume growing from 20cms to 1 metre. Plants have 3-5inch pods, beautifully clustered in symmetric patterns. As the pods mature they turn a dark brown. Prefer hot and fairly dry conditions. Excellent source of protein and great for sprouts.

New, Pinks ($3.50)

Sweet and spicy light pink bean for soups and baking. 2 foot bushes bear masses of small pods. Always early to mature.

New, Red Hawk Kidney ($3.50)

Upright bush yielding, large amounts of dark red kidney beans. Mid- to full-season uniform maturity. Excellent canning quality.

New, Swedish Brown ($3.50)

Scandinavian heirloom that dates to at least the 1890s. Nutty flavour, perfect baked or in soups. The 15" plants produce pods with 5-7 light golden brown seeds with a white eye. Ready early August.

New, Teggia ($3.50)

Compact plant with amazing 7-8" long red and cream pods. Can be harvested as fresh shelling beans or as dry beans. Fresh beans have a delicious buttery flavour, the dried beans have the same red/ cream colouring, which fades to pink when cooked. Perfect in soups and stews, or cooked and chilled in a bean salad. 65-70 days to maturity (fresh).

Aztec Red Kidney ($3.50)

Rare bush variety similar to Red Kidney but larger. Plants grow 2-3 feet tall, producing generously. Great in soups or cooked whole. Beautiful, tasty bean.

Beka Brown ($3.50)

Beautiful golden yellow bush bean. Always early and prolific, maturing early to mid-August. Great flavour for baking and soups.

Black Turtle ($3.50)

Small black bean with full rich flavour. Ready end of August. Good snap bean & great dry bean. Very productive. A customer favourite.

Candy ($3.50)

Very large and very pretty bean deserving of its name. Pinky brown, splashed with deep red/crimson. Tasty and early.

Dutch Brown ($3.50)

Great early dry bean originating from Holland. Has a smooth texture with a tasty, nutty flavour. Excellent in stews, soups and as itself.

Jacob's Cattle ($3.50)

Famous East Coast bean, legend has it that the Passamaquoddy native tribe introduced these beans to settlers in New England. Great for baking - rich, nutty, delicious flavour and fine texture. Holds its shape when cooked. Matures mid-Aug.

Montezuma Red ($3.50)

Small, deep red, delicious beans from this sprawling native of South and Central America. Very productive and tolerates a wide range of soils and weather conditions. Great flavour.

Orca ($3.50)

A beautiful bicoloured (black and white) bean that resembles the colouring of the Killer Whale or Orca. Great flavour. Early maturity. Also known as Yin Yang Bean.

Six Nations ($3.50)

Similar to Taylor Horticultural, Tongue of Fire. Heirloom from Iroquois tribe. Prolific horticultural type beans. Retains shape and firm texture in hot or cold dishes. Matures mid-Aug.

Ruckle ($3.50)

Mild, sweet, white kidney bean for soup and baking. Salt Spring Island heirloom from Gwen Ruckle.

Black Coco » certified organic ($3.50)

Large, roundish, cocoa-flavoured black bean. Knee-high bushes. Dry mid to late August. Good versatile bean: early snap bean, then a sheller, then a great dry bean. Definitely a favourite.

Pinto ($3.50)

Rectangular, buff and brown-mottled beans. Tasty, spicy flavour. Short cooking time.

Portuguese ($3.50)

Early, prolific and reliable bush bean from Portugal. Fine soup and baking bean.

Nez Perce ($3.50)

Golden yellow bean. Always early and prolific. Rare heirloom originated with the Nez Perce Tribe.

Mitla Black Tepary (Phaseolus acutifolius) ($3.50)

Small black bean with full rich flavour.

Red Kidney ($3.50)

High yielding and early bush bean. Famous as a baking and chili bean.
