Pole beans make more efficient use of space than bush beans but are often a few weeks later to mature than the earliest bush varieties.

New, Annie Jackson ($3.50)

Beautiful Russian pole bean originally brought to Southern Manitoba by Annie Jackson, where her son has kept it alive since. Can be eaten fresh or dried. A vigorous growing plant, that dries down quickly in the fall for dry bean harvest. Cream coloured pods contain half burgundy and half white beans which are ready by September. Excellent baking bean. 95-100 days to maturity (fresh).

New, Black Stringless Pole Bean ($3.50)

Growing up to 8 feet, produces prolific amounts of stringless snap beans. Also an excellent dry bean, super tasty and creamy when cooked. 35 seeds/pkt

New, Don Collis' Pole Bean ($3.50)

Large white runner bean. Vigorous climber. Fantastic flavour and texture.

New, True Red Cranberry ($3.50)

Deemed to be one of the oldest American bean varieties originating from the NE. Growing to 6 feet/2 metres this pole bean is a dependable producer of large, heavy, round, deep red beans that look like a ripe cranberry and have a rich full-bodied flavour. Delicious at the shelly bean or dry bean stage. 20 or more seeds per packet.

Goldmarie ($3.50)

High quality golden/yellow Romano pole bean. Produces a massive crop of huge, tender beans on vigorous vines over a long season. Delicious clean "beany" flavour, best eaten at about 6". White seeded.

Kentucky Wonder ($3.50)

One of the most popular pole snap beans. High producer, excellent for eating fresh, freezing or canning when pods are young. Makes a good shell bean when left to mature fully.

Trionfo Violetto ($3.50)

Beautiful Italian heirloom. Prolific, all season production of French type purple-pod beans that are sweet and succulent, magically turning green when cooked. Ornamental plants, growing upto 8 feet, with abundant lavender flowers, blooming against lush green leaves with purple veins and stems.

Rightly famous as one of the best fresh-eating pole beans. Large amounts of tender 15-18cm (6-7") long, dark green pods. Stringless, firm and straight, unusually smooth and tender-crisp with a mild, sweet flavour. White seeded. Long bearing plants.

Neabel's ($3.50)

A heavy yielding, Ukrainian heirloom, pole variety growing 6-8 feet. Long a favourite dry bean at Salt Spring Seeds. Very pretty maroon speckled two-toned beans.

Fawcett's ($3.50)

Very prolific stringless snap bean. Speckled purple pods turn bright green when cooked. Unique in how it keeps its crunch as it gets older. A prizewinner.
