French Grey Shallot
Allium oschaninii. Considered the ultimate variety by gourmet chefs. Plant cloves in autumn 6-8 inches apart and 1/2 inch deep in a fertile, well-drained sunny location. Harvest when leaves yellow and fall over. Salt Spring Seeds is the only source of these shallots in Canada. $15 for a half pound. 30 shallots or more.
