Oregon Grape


Mahonia aquifolium. Perennial evergreen shrub native to the Pacific Northwest. Leaves resemble holly and the bright yellow flowers emit a delightful rose-like fragrance. The root contains berberine and is often used as a substitute for Golden Seal. Stimulates liver function. Has been used to treat psoriasis, poor appetite, indigestion and bronchitis. Roots also used to make a yellow dye.
