Collection: Carrot Seeds (Daucus carota)

We've been giving carrots to our neighbours in 2025 and are delighted that they agree with us as to the superiority of fresh homegrown ones. Our neighbourhood kids love pulling carrots right out of the ground..and so do we!

The cultivated carrot originated in Afghanistan and was purple. The modern orange carrot was developed by the Dutch in the 16th century.

Carrots are an excellent source of beta carotene and Vitamin A. Best root formation happens in a loose loamy seedbed. They can be direct sown as soon as the soil is workable and successions can be planted until mid-summer, providing vegetables from late spring to early winter. Thin to a few inches apart and mulch to keep the soil loose and weeds down.
