One of the exciting things about growing your own lettuce is that you can go out and pick as much as you want, when you want. Most lettuces, even the heading ones, tolerate well the cut-and-come-again approach if you harvest the outer leaves.

Another sweet thing about growing your own is that it's very easy to save seed for future plantings so that you never have to buy Lettuce seed again. You just need to allow some plants to flower and then shake some seeds into a container after flowering.

There's an amazing diversity of shapes, colours and sizes in the Lettuce world. As well, the cultivars have many different appearances as they flower and go to seed.
