Collection: Corn Seeds

People often ask Salt Spring Seeds if our corn is non-GMO. It definitely is! We are lucky to be growing corn seed on the British Columbia Gulf Islands, far away from possible contamination by genetically modified corn.
GMO corn has been genetically modified to contain a bacterium called bacillus thuringensis or Bt, which is why GMO corn is often called Bt corn. Bt is an insecticide that works by paralyzing the digestive systems of the targeted insects and by forming holes in their gut walls. Tests have conclusively shown that the Bt from GMO corn persists in the human digestive tract. The derivatives of GMO corn, especially high fructose corn syrup, are in practically every processed food product.
Packets contain about 70 seeds.
