Alfalfa (Medicago sativa)
Perennial widely grown throughout the world, originally native to Central and Western Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean. Arabs gave Alfalfa its name which means 'father of all foods'. Great for sprouting and incredibly high in vitamins and minerals. Excellent cover crop, roots reaching down to 20 feet, and for putting vegetable beds to rest. Prefers full sun, drought tolerant. Fresh sprouts and tea of the dried aerial plant provide a rich source of chlorophyll and minerals. Used as a stimulating, tonic herb.
*NB The open-pollinated, non-GMO, organically grown Alfalfa we are offering is threatened due to the imminent introduction of a genetically modified (GM) variety and hence genetic transfer/contamination through cross pollination!
