Bearing many clamshell-shaped fruits that can be eaten throughout all stages, this easy-growing Patty Pan squash offers abundance and versatility in the garden.
You can harvest and enjoy the small, tender green squash early in the season, or allow them to mature for use as a winter squash. They still maintain a great flavour even at a larger size, and they store very well. We enjoy this squash in many ways on the farm, from roasting to soups; they are an excellent stand-alone or addition to many recipes.
The plants are prolific, producing early and continuously throughout the entire season. Their growth habit is bush-like and upright, allowing for efficient use of garden space.
These Patty Pans can be either direct-sown or transplanted. If sowing directly, wait until late spring when the soil temperatures have reached 15 °C. If starting indoors, start three weeks before the last frost and wait to transplant until late spring when the soil has warmed.
