Milkweed/Pleurisy Root / Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa)

Beautiful herbaceous perennial species of Milkweed native to the prairies and eastern North America. Hardy, growing up to 1 metre (3 ft) tall, with clustered orange or yellow flowers from early summer to early autumn. Prefers sand or gravel soil with full sun and regular water. Attracts butterflies, especially Monarchs and abundant bees. The tough, deep growing tap-root has a turpentine odour, and when dried can be made into a low-dose tea or tincture for treating pleurisy, a painful inflammation of the membrane surrounding the lungs. Cold soil germinator, sow the seed in the early spring. (Approx. 40 seeds)
