Prunella vulgaris. Creeping, hardy perennial, prefers open, sunny locations, and loamy soil. Grows up to 1ft/30cm tall, bearing small blue and purple flowers on compact spikes all summer. Much loved by bees, it is an excellent choice for meadow gardens. Used to soothe inflammation of the mouth and as a gargle for sore throats. Also used on cuts and wounds. Anti-herpes. Sow seed in early spring or cold-condition in moist medium in the refrigerator (Woundwort, Heart-of-the-Earth)
