Collection: Teff Seeds (Eragostris teff)
Teff is known as the world's smallest grain. It has been cultivated for thousands of years in Ethiopia, where it is commonly made into a bread called injera. Plants are fine stemmed with many tillers and roots are shallow and develop a large and fibrous root system. Plants grow 3-4 feet.
Teff can be started indoors or direct sown very shallowly in warm soil. Seeds germinate in 3-6 days. Teff is very hardy and drought tolerant and can be grown in poor soil. It makes an excellent cover crop, takes about 3 months to mature and is very sensitive to frost.
Teff is a gluten-free grain that is high in iron, protein, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
